BEAUTY SECRETS OF CLEOPATRA

I am really, really excited to be sharing these beauty secrets with you guys. Cleopatra was a true pioneer in the world of beauty. Some of her beloved ingredients she used in her routine can be found in products we use today. The best part is, all the things she used are natural, and  a lot of the treatments and ingredients she used are still available today.  Below are just a few of her favorite beauty treatments. No other woman in history,in my opinion, has influenced the world of beauty more than Cleopatra.

FACE
ALOE VERA IS SO AMAZING FOR THE SKIN

  • Natron (baking soda) and water where combined  to create an exfoliating mask
  • Aloe Vera was used to combat scars and wounds. This plant contains 75 minerals, nutrients, vitamins, enzymes and salicylic acid. You can use it as a mask.
  • Frankincense combined with maringa oil, fermented plant juice and cyprus grass was used to create an anti-aging, winkle- fighting cream.

BODY
JUST THESE 2 INGREDIENTS PACK A MAJOR PUNCH

  • She regularly bathed in milk and honey. Milk is a lactic acid helps hydrate the skin and contains  Vitaimn A, D and E. Honey is a humectant, which promotes moisture retention.
  • A mixture of boiled birds bones, cucumber, gum, oil and sycamore juice was used to create a wax that she used to remove unwanted body hair.
  • Honey, natron (baking soda) and Dead Sea Salt were combined to create a body scrub. *hint* regular sea salt works just fine, too.
  • A serum consisting of dill, fenugreek and fennel was used to enhance her lovely lady lumps, her bosom and bottom.
  • She wore oils of  rose, jasmine and myrrh as perfume.

HAIR
HENNA

  • Castor oil and olive oil was used in the hair as a hot oil treatment.
  • She was known to wear hair extensions, wigs and hair pieces.
  • Henna  was used to dye her hair.
MAKEUP
TARTE'S EGYPTIAN BLACK KOHL EYE LINER

  • She used black kohl as an eyeliner
  • Red ochre and goose fat were used as a lip and cheek stain.
  • Black sulphide of antimony (mestem) darkened her eyebrows and eyelashes
  • Ground almond, saffron and green copper were used as eye shadow.

Cleopatra was clearly a woman who enjoyed taking care of herself, something I can definitely relate to. She even had her own spa made near the Dead Sea to have her treatments done. She is truly a woman of my own heart.
