FASHION FRIDAY: THE MAASAI PROJECT

The Maasai Project was founded from the partnership between Spanish footwear company Pikolinos and the non profit ADCAM. The project helps the women of the Maasai tribe, of Kenya, design sandals and bags, which are then finished in Spain.

Sandals from the collection
This project is well into its fourth season, and has included support from celebrities such as  international model Adriana Karembeu, whose the project's image for France, and most recently socialite Olivia Palermo, who became the brand ambassador. The goal of this project is to empower the women of this tribe by allowing them to earn a living and sustain their environment. I believe  there is nothing more rewarding and satisfying, especially as a woman, than the sense of accomplishment you feel when you earn money from the work you've done.
