WHO RUN THE WORLD....GIRLS!

There's an old saying, "Give a man a fish and you  feed him for a day. But teach a man to fish and you  feed him for a lifetime."  As a kid I wasn't sure what this actually meant, but now I see this proverb is about educating someone so they're capable of taking care of themselves. This strong sense of empowerment is exactly what the women of  the Anakazi Center intend to do, well minus the fish.

This picture perfectly describes how I am feeling right now. Even though I am sick as a dog, I can't help but have a smile on my face. So many fun things are coming up for team TDB and I am beyond excited. No worries, all will be shared soon enough. FASHION FRIDAY: COLIN COWIE

Like most women, I've dreamed of my wedding day, since I was a little girl. Unlike most women, though, I've even dreamed of my wedding planner! Yes, since I was a little girl, I've always known that I wanted Colin Cowie to be my wedding planner.

PACIFIC RIM

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of the Kaiju, or Monster film genre, and I'm also a fan of big giant robots fighting said monsters. Pacific Rim combines my two loves,  into one epic monster fighting movie that manages to hold your interest throughout the entire film, although I could be being totally biased here. The main story centers around Raleigh Becket, played by Charlie Hunnam, and how he teams up with a resistance group led by Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba, to stop the impending monster apocalypse. Can we talk about how awesome Idris is in this film? His character commanded presence each time he appeared on screen and you really got that sense that he was a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders; also, he is the main reason why different nations have abandoned their differences and have teamed up with each other. I don't want to give too much away since the movie is fairly new, but  I will say that if you want to watch an entertaining film, you need to go see this movie. Don't believe me? Check this out.

MUSIC MONDAY: ENVY

Have you ever listened to a song and realized the lyrics hit a little too close to home? Envy's song "Am I Wrong" did that to me. I was having one of those deep life conversations with myself and essentially questioning everything. You know, the usual philosophical questions people tend to ask. Should I being doing this? Am I where I should be in life?

I've convinced myself that Iyadede and I are the same person. Besides the obvious African connection, we both rock the natural hair look (she wears braids sometimes, I used to), she lives in Brooklyn (I would live there), and if I could carry a tune, I'm almost positive people would say our voices sound alike. Same person right?! Alright, so maybe we're not exactly the same person, but a girl can dream can't she?

So, tomorrow  marks our one-year anniversary! I swear, time really flies; it's crazy to think of all the amazing things we've done over the past year.

I really love basketball and I really like the Lakers so you can imagine my mood was I write this, but it's not all bad since there is another LA team that's performing well. No, its not the Clippers,but the Los Angeles Sparks.

I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that Africans are slowly making their way into mainstream American entertainment. Idris Elba is taking over the big screen, Duro Olowu is conquering the fashion world, and musicians like Nneka, Wale, and Tinie Tempah are taking over the charts. Clearly, Kanye West and Jay Z are aware of this, because they both have introduced and shared African artists and music to the masses. Kanye West was instrumental in D'Banj making it big in America, while Jay Z produced Fela, and used a beat from soon to be well known producer, Wondagurl, on his latest album.
