GET FAMILIAR: BROADWAY SERVES

I've always been a believer that one person can truly make a difference, but a group of people together? Well, that's a movement. I recently got to witness a movement that has the ability to make great things happen.

Co-founded by Kimberly Marable, Dana Marie Ingraham, and Dionne Figgins in April 2012, Broadway Serves  is a service organization comprised of actors in the Broadway community who strive to "be the change we want to see in the world."

Kimberly Marable, Co-Founder
The organization recently launched Fashion Forward, a fashion initiative all about fashion, charity, and raising awareness about the importance of community service. With the help from her "The Book of Mormon" co-star Christian White, Kimberly and Christian came up with the idea of hosting a photo shoot to bring attention  to issues happening in Uganda, as well as their Ugandan Charity initiatives.

Shoot Stylist and coordinator, Telena Cassell, helps Kimberly try on one of her looks to check for proper fit
The shoot, which was styled by Telena Cassell from The Fashion Brewery,  consisted of cast members from "The Book of Mormon" modeling clothing from local African and African-American designers. Taye Taylor, Rue 114, Vivianne Kelly, Paula Carlotto, Studio D-Maxi Designs, and Mahriama Suma are just a few of the designers included in the shoot. Fashion Forward also partnered with established brands: Madisonpark Collection, David Britton, and Koral Los Angeles Denim.

Ultimately, Kimberly hopes this shoot will raise visibility to the challenges and issues the Ugandan people face.

I walked away from this shoot inspired and ready to be the change I would want to see in the world.
