GET FAMILIAR: SHEVA ALOMAR

Video-games are a great medium of storytelling, you can introduce exotic characters and locales and create a universe that allows others to fully immerse themselves into the story. One storyline that is very popular in gaming is that of a zombie outbreak/apocalypse, don't ask me why, and no series is more successful in that genre than Resident Evil.

The Resident Evil series didn't really interest me until Resident Evil 5 because they had an African person (a woman at that) as a main character. I couldn't remember a time before that where I saw African people in videogames  that weren't heavily stereotyped until Sheva Alomar came onto the scene.

Sheva is native to West Africa and is a member of the BSAA ( Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) and is an all around bad ass. She can hold her own against the hordes of zombie enemies and is a top class agent all around.

I wish that we could have more strong lead Africans in videogames, we kick ass and deserve to do so in the virtual realm too. Here's to Sheva Alomar, the first African videogame character that was an integral part of the story and wasn't a stereotype...good job Sheva.
