So many African artists are doing such big things right now. As a fan, and fellow African, I am so proud and excited for them all. Here are a few that I am the most excited about.

MUSIC MONDAY: GRANDPA'S TOP 5
TDB with Grpa |
It's a very special day here over at TDB. Our grandfather, aka Grpa, decided to contribute to the Congo Week Edition Music Monday post! When I approached him about contributing to the blog he was super excited and even took the time to hand write his top five songs with a brief introduction about himself.

FASHION FRIDAY: AFWLA 2013
THE CROWD RIGHT BEFORE SHOWTIME |
TDB'S ASHA AND DIVA |
I loved everything about this year's fashion week. From the location, this year's show was held at 525 DTLA, an art gallery where Chris Brown's work is featured....yes, that Chris Brown; to the designers, 2 African Girls and Tina Summers slayed, and I want/need everything from those collections; to the music, the deejay played a good mix of African and American music that kept the crowd hyped.
FRONT ROW FABULOUSNESS |
I'd been waiting for this show all year long, and I'm so glad that it didn't disappoint. Normally, I'd post pics of the actual collections, but I was so impressed with the looks of the attendees, that I wanted to give them some love. Of course I died for the collections as well, and you can check out all the designers on our YouTube page.

GET FAMILIAR: LUPITA NYONG'O
With only a few credits to her name, actress Lupita Nyong'o is already creating a name for herself in the film world. And with a role in Steve McQueen's highly anticipated "12 Years A Slave", which Nyong'o is expected to take home the New Hollywood Award at the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards, it seems as though this is just the beginning for the Kenyan actress. Bottom line: It's about time we all get familiar with Lupita Nyong'o.

MUSIC MONDAY: LET'S CATCH UP
I'm back! I haven't posted in two weeks and it seriously feels like a lifetime. Because I know you are just dying to hear what I've been up to (more so I'm dying to tell you), I've decided to share how I spent my time away from TDB.
First things first, I got the heck out of town. I was finally able to make my way down to San Diego and see friends I haven't seen in years. It was so fun and relaxing. I'll definitely be heading back soon.

PSA: THE WOMEN'S MOVEMENT IN AFRICA
Aminita Touré |
I know this isn't the typical "nerdy" post you'd expect from me, but something has been going on in Africa that hasn't received a ton of coverage stateside (at least nothing I have seen) and I can't just be silent about it.There has been a women's movement going on, that has started to score some big wins in the recent years.
