GET FAMILIAR: ELIAICHI KIMARO

Filmmaker Eliaichi Kimaro has built a career being behind the lens, but now, her turn in front of the camera has cultivated one of her most thought-provoking and honest works to date.

Born to a Tanzanian father and Korean mother, Eliaichi struggled with the idea of identity. It wasn't until she was in an interracial relationship of her own, that  she began to yearn for a better understanding of who she is, and where she comes from.

When her parents decided to retire in Tanzania, Eliaichi followed them, with her camera in tow, and began the journey to understanding her African roots.

In her documentary, A Lot Like You, we get an intimate look as Eliaichi learns about her African culture, identity, family, and, more importantly, herself.

Kimaro's film will be shown at this year's 23rd Cascade Festival of African Films on March 2nd.

Check out the trailer to A Lot Like You.
