Over the weekend, we caught the first screening of "Taka Takata", a film we sponsored for The Pan African Film Festival. The film, a comedy made by first-time director Damir Radonic, tells the tale of a local street soccer/football team in Johannesburg, that ranks at the bottom of their league. In order to remedy the situation, the owner's slacker brother, Rasta, decides to get a player from Brazil (played by Trevor Noah), but things don't go exactly as planned.

After the screening, we had the pleasure to speak with the director; Radonic revealed that but that the majority of the film was improvised, and that to give the film a documentary-type style, he shot the film on a handheld camera. I think his bold choices paid off and I really enjoyed the film.
If you are in the Los Angeles area, "Taka Takata" will be screening again today at 9:30 pm and tomorrow at 1:30 pm at Rave Cinema.
