Hailing from Kampala, Uganda, model Kiara Kabukuru began her
career at the tender age of 16, after being discovered by fashion photographer
Bill Bodwell in a Los Angeles shopping center. Since then, she's worked for
the fashion houses of Chanel, Dior, Balmain, as well as advertising campaigns
for Dolce and Gabbana, L'Oreal and most notably Cover Girl. Kiara has also had
the privilege of gracing the cover of American Vogue, which is a huge
coup for any model's career.
Tragically, in 2000, Kiara was hit by a truck
while cycling in New York City. She suffered such serious injuries, when
she was admitted to the hospital everyone stared at her and
no one would give her a mirror to see herself; she was also confined to a
wheelchair for 2 months. After years of surgery and physical therapy, Kiara
made her triumphant return to modeling in Vogue Italia's infamous
2008 Black Issue.

Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book, where she graces the pages.
