There's an old saying, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. But teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." As a kid I wasn't sure what this actually meant, but now I see this proverb is about educating someone so they're capable of taking care of themselves. This strong sense of empowerment is exactly what the women of the Anakazi Center intend to do, well minus the fish.
The Anakazi Center, founded by Yareka Mhango, focuses on the social and economic empowerment and development for African women through advocacy and business. I recently attended their annual business conference and am beyond grateful I did. The panelists of women participating in the conference were all accomplished, self-made women who expressed the true key to their successes were educating themselves on not only their product but the market they were entering, believing in themselves 100%, and cultivating relationships with those who believe in their idea as much as they do.
