Postage made in honor of the 80th anniversary of Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah
On March 6, 1957 the people of Ghana put an end to colonial rule and became the first black African country to become independent. Ghana's first Prime Minister, Kwame Nkrumah, adopted Pan-Africanism, an ideology he embraced based off Marcus Garvey's "Back To Africa Movement" and scholar W.E. Dubois. Nkrumah wanted the newly independent Ghana to have principles based on freedom, justice, equity, and education for all regardless of ethnic background, religion or creed. |
