DID YOU KNOW?: 5 FACTS ABOUT THE CONGO

In honor of Congo Week I've decided to make a list of five facts that you may not know about the Congo.

1. The Congo is big: This is not an exaggeration in the least, the Democratic Republic of the Congo ( DRC) is a massive territory that is 905,600 sq miles ( 2.345 million km squared). That's roughly 2/3 the size of Western Europe.

2. The city life is the life for me: The media would have you believe that Africa is this land full of animals and people that live in huts which is false, especially if you are talking about the DRC; in fact, the DRC is one of Africa's most urbanized countries with 70% of the total population living in the city.

3. Bonjour!:  With a population of over 70 million people, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the 18th most populated country in the world and the most populated country in the world where French is the official language. That's right, there are more French speakers in the DRC than there are in France.
* Look I tried to find a picture but I don't think I can find one that even relates to this....that isn't offensive*

4.  Royal Beginnings: Long before it was the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it was known as the Kongo Kingdom which spanned from 1390-1914.

5. Exclusive Content: The DRC is home to several species of mammals that can not be found anywhere else on earth. This includes the Bonobo, the Black Mangabey,  Thollon's Red Colobus and the Okapi.
